Descrizione del corso

The possibility to provide and share a quick answer to the increasing humanitarian emergency events, as well as to support local economic development, is strictly linked to the availability of detailed and frequently updated geographic data. Over the last few years, Humanitarian Mapping has developed many powerful and accessible tools due also to the confirmation of open source philosophy; these tools have a user friendly interface and are deeply related with OpenStreetMap that represents the most important and shared worldwide geographic information database.

This training course is designed to illustrate the most relevant and open tools and freely available products as well as methodologies. Module 2 will threaten the procedures to contribute and/or coordinate humanitarian mapping activities in different situations, illustrating the most important actors and the more relevant open data sources. Module 3 will focus on how to create and share geographic information both supported by mobile devices or just with a GPS and the Field Papers tool. Module 4 and 5 will focus on the coordination procedures, through the HOT Tasking Manager tool and on the procedures for reviewing and validating the data entered.

E-learning formula: The course is divided into five main modules that are split in three sections (videos) of 30 minutes each. Participants are asked to pass a multiple-choice test to move to the next module. In addition to the videos and the required data, participants will be provided with links to external materials to support a deeper understanding of the course topics.
